FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

There are several training centers in town. Why should I use DTC rather than one of the others?

DTC offers a unique blend of real-world I.T. experience, teaching talent, and value. Our instructor pool is unmatched in the area, and we offer many advantages such as lowest-price guaranteed, certification guaranteed, and a supportive, friendly atmosphere.

See About DTC for more details.

Why should I get my certifications?

Certification demonstrates to your customers and colleagues that you have the specialized knowledge required to use or support specific products.

In general, the more certifications you have, the more marketable you are. Of course, the certs need to be backed up with practical knowledge.

I keep hearing about the lack of jobs in the area. What's the real story?

While it's true that the economy is waning and many companies are laying off workers, there are large numbers of unfilled I.T. positions in all areas. Charleston has many openings.

While DTC is not a placement center, and makes no guarantee of finding students jobs, we do have many contacts in the area. Employers depend on us as a source of employees. Most of our graduates have no problems finding jobs. We're also happy to work with you on resumes and interview skills so that you can present yourself well.

How much does your program cost?

Our prices are the best in the Charleston area for comparable, instructor-led programs.

See Prices for more details.

How can I pay for my training?

Most people pay one of 4 ways:

  • Cash/check.
  • Credit card.
  • Signature loan.
  • Home-equity or other secured loan.

For more information, see Monthly Installment Plans.

What training materials do you use?

DTC uses Microsoft Official Curriculum (MOC) for the Microsoft courses and the Michael Meyers books for A+ and Network+. These materials are of the highest quality and cover everything you need to know. They also serve as worthy reference materials on the job. (Note: Books are covered in your tuition price.)

Where can I take the tests?

DTC is an authorized VUE testing center; you may schedule tests during open hours or by special appointment.

See Testing for more information.

Where is your training center?

We're in Fairfield Park at 1064 Gardner Road, Suite 107, in West Ashley. We've recently moved to expand and improve our space, so please come by for a tour!

From North Charleston, take I-26 to South Cosgrove, come over the North Bridge, then fork to the right with Sam Rittenberg. We're on your left after Ashley River Road, across from Moe's.

Do you offer any test preparation?

Yes, our instructors are available to help students in their studies. They will give you the right test-preparation software and published material you need for each test. They will also run cram sessions and assist you by phone and by e-mail

Is it possible to retake tests if I fail them?

Yes, you can retake the tests as many times as you need, as long as you pay the fee each time.

It's no crime to fail a test; most people do at one time or another. However, our full track will prepare you as thoroughly as any program can so that you have the best possible chance of passing.

If your instructor pretests you (verbally or in writing) and states that you are ready to test -- and you still fail! -- then we'll pay for your retest. This is a rare situation. Normally, a pretest will gauge your knowledge level.

Should I go days or nights?

The primary advantage of day tracks is speed. Students can finish more quickly; for example, MCSE 2000 requires 5 weeks of class if you go days, or 20 weeks of class if you go nights.

The primary advantages of night tracks are that students have time between classes to study and prepare, and that students who are unavailable during the day can attend.

Most courses are offered days and nights.

Which courses are covered in your MCSE and MCSA tracks?

See the individual descriptions under Microsoft.

I'm hearing a lot about MCSA. Is that a good alternative to MCSE?

MCSA is an excellent "starter" certification. The way DTC has structured its program, it is possible to attain MCSA along the way to MCSE. That's because we've chosen our electives carefully to give you the best overall education. We also offer MCSA on its own.

See MCSA for more information on the two MCSA paths.

Do you offer a finder's fee if I refer someone?

Your referrals are our best advertising, and we appreciate them deeply. Therefore, we offer incentives to encourage you to refer your associates.

We will pay you 5% of the tuition price of the course (minus any promotional discounts or special deals) for each referred person who signs up. This is payable after the referred person's full payment has been received (so in the case of financing, at the end of the term of the note). Talk to your DTC representative for more details.

Note: A finder's fee cannot be deducted from any outstanding balance owed to us; it will be paid explicitly by us to you.

Do you offer flexible schedules if people can't go during standard hours?

Yes, we are willing to work with you to develop a schedule that meets your needs.

Contact our sales department for scheduling forecasts.

We also offer onsite training for corporations or groups.

Do you offer discounts for military? How about groups?

Yes, we offer a 5% discount for military personnel.

Our policy for groups is, "Send 4, get the 5th free." We will discount deeply for any group of 3 or more. We also offer interest-free 30/60/90 financing for purchase orders.
